Private Address Maps (The Disappearing MANET Autoconf Problem)

چکیده
In this paper we propose a self-addressing framework for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) based on the degenerated use of network address translation (NAT) where each node builds its private “address map”. In contrast to previous proposals, MANET nodes do not need to coordinate in order to generate unique (IP) addresses. This solves an important autoconfiguration problem for MANETs and fits well in cross-layering strategies for stub networks. We discuss the architectural impact of this approach in the bigger context of IP names, addresses and routability.

Extensions for Stateless Address
Nodes use IPv6 stateless address autoconfiguration to generate addresses using a combination of locally available information and information advertised by routers. Addresses are formed by combining network prefixes with an interface identifier. On an interface that contains an embedded IEEE Identifier, the interface identifier is typically derived from it. On other interface types, the interfa...
متن کاملProphet Address Allocation for Large Scale MANETs
A mobile device in a MANET must be assigned a free IP address before it may participate in unicast communication. This is a fundamental and difficult problem in the practical use of any MANET. Several solutions have been proposed. However, these approaches have different drawbacks. A new IP address allocation algorithm, namely prophet allocation, is proposed in the paper. The proposed scheme ma...
متن کاملAddress Management in MANETs Using an Ant Colony Metaphor
This chapter presents a solution to the network address management problem in a MANET. The chapter follows this structure: First, we will identify the unique operation features of a MANET. Then, we will present several approaches that have been proposed in order to solve the network address management problem. Next, we will present and support the utilization of two key concepts in our solution...

متن کاملA Gateway Prototype for Coalition Tactical MANETs
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are well suited for tactical groups whose operations require that the network adapt to dynamic topology changes without the aid of centralized infrastructures. As more coalition forces deploy in tactical operations, their networks require inter-connectivity for sharing broadcast, multicast and unicast traffic from coalition applications such as situational awaren...
